NASA / IEEE MSST2006
Fourteenth NASA Goddard / Twenty-Third IEEE
Conference on Mass Storage Systems and Technologies
Call for Papers

At MSST2006, we will build on previous conferences, and research and developments in access, scalability, inter-operability, and long term stewardship of globally distributed storage, to investigate the concept of the Global Storage Grid. The Global Storage Grid will provide high speed secure access to data on open global networks, with access and performance characteristics of local data, while also promoting concepts of redundancy, backup, and reliability. The Global Storage Grid will emerge from developments in storage technologies, high speed global networks, and data management and access software.
Specific areas of interest for MSST2006 include developments in storage technologies such as disk storage, tape storage, clustered storage, and other emerging technologies; developments in high speed global networks, such as high speed wide area 10gbps networks, new network protocols for data transport and access, and wide area storage area networks; and data management and access software such as grid software, meta-data catalog and database systems, global file systems, systems for secure access to remote data, and systems for long term data preservation. We are also interested in applications of massive arrays of personal storage, as well as in user experiences, site reports, and performance analysis.
How to Participate
We encourage participation by individuals and organizations with research or practical experience, including government and commercial users, universities, research laboratories, and early adopters. We invite submissions of technical papers, tutorial proposals, short paper/poster presentations, and vendor briefings. Send submissions electronically, in PDF format, to Ben Kobler (ben.kobler@nasa.gov.). Include submission title, author name(s), organization, address, telephone number, fax number, e-mail address, and a brief description of how your contribution relates to the theme of this conference. Also designate a primary contact person, phone number, and e-mail address. Submissions are due January 6, 2006. We will notify authors of accepted papers by email on February 13, 2006.
Technical Papers and Poster Presentations: Submit a full 8-14 page paper (Note the change in length requirement from previous years). If accepted, final papers will be due March 13, 2006. Final, camera-ready papers, incorporating reviewer comments, must be submitted, in PDF format no later than March 27, 2006, and must conform to formatting standards to be described in the Author's Kit. Short submissions of 3-5 pages in length will only be considered for poster presentations.
Tutorial Proposals: A highlight of the conference will be tutorial sessions on May 15, 2006. Submit outlines of half- or full-day tutorials, with material to be covered and a biography of the proposed tutorial presenter by January 6, 2006.
Vendor Briefings: We will provide a block of time during the conference for vendors to present information addressing the conference theme. Submit a 3-5 page abstract by January 6, 2006. Vendor Expo: Space for vendor product exhibits will be assigned in the order reservations are received. Space is limited. Vendor inter-operability demonstrations are encouraged. To register and to discuss facilities and cost, contact the Vendor Expo Chair: Gary Sobol (GZSobol@aol.com.).
Work in Progress (WIP): A special session will feature presentations of late-breaking research and developments. Submit a 3-5 page abstract in PDF format to Ethan Miller (elm@cs.ucsc.edu.) by April 10, 2006. We will notify presenters of acceptance by April 17, 2006. "Work in Progress" descriptions will be listed in the schedule, and presentations will be posted on the conference Web site.
Extemporaneous Session: An extemporaneous session will provide a forum for short presentations of last-minute thoughts and ideas. Presenters will sign up for speaking slots during the conference.
